Guidelines for abstracts

Abstracts must be submitted using the online submission system at the congress website. To do so, authors must register online providing their email address. Registration will be confirmed by email, informing about username and password.

Then go back to the “Submit Abstract" icon and enter your username and password. Proceed by filling the Abstract Submission Form.

 

Abstract regulations

With the submission of an abstract to this meeting, the presenting author:

  • confirms that all authors are aware of and agree to the content of the abstract and support the presented dataaccepts to be the contact person for all correspondence about the abstract and inform co-authors about its status
  • states that for studies involving human or animal subjects, permission has been obtained from the relevant regulatory authority, and properly informed consent give where appropriate
  • accepts responsibility for the accuracy of the submitted abstract
  • acknowledges that once the abstract is submitted, changes, corrections or rewording are possible only until the deadline of abstract submission
  • agrees with the publication of abstracts on the website of the congress and in the abstract book

 

Abstract preparation

  • Abstracts must be written in English, but its presentation may be done in English or Portuguese.
  • Authors that choose to present their work in English will be included within the main Congress on Laboratory Medicine in Health Care.
  • Authors that choose to present their work in Portuguese will be included within the 1º Congresso Nacional do Laboratório Clínico.
  • The text of abstracts may not exceed 3000 characters, excluding title and authors.
  • Abstracts should not include images, graphics or references.
  • Special characters are widely supported
  • Abstracts should contain the following elements:
    1. Rationale
    2. Materials and Methods
    3. Results
    4. Conclusion
  • Careful typing and proof-reading are essential as the abstract will appear, if accepted, as submitted
  • Single authors may submit multiple abstracts
  • Authors may choose between two presentation types: Poster, Oral Communication.
  • The Scientific Committee will select abstracts to be presented as Poster or Oral Communication, depending on their pertinency and appropriateness.
  • Oral Communications will be 8 minutes each, followed by two-minute discussion.
  • If a submission has been selected as Oral Communication, there will be no need for poster presentation

Electronic submission rules

  • The following fields must be filled for submitting an abstract:
  • Abstract title: Should be written in capital letters and must not exceed 140 characters.
  • Topics: one appropriate topic has to be chosen.
  • Type: Choose the preferred type of presentation (Oral Communication, Poster)
  • Name of Authors: The name of all authors having contributed to the abstract must be given in the respective fields.
    1. Name of presenting author: The name of the presenting author must be specified separately (must be registered for the congress)
    2. First name and family name must be provided unabbreviated in case of presenting author, for all other authors first names can be abbreviated and family names must be given in full
  • Institution: please provide name of institution or hospital, departments and or other further sub-divisions can be listed separated by commas.
  • Email: Please make sure that a valid email address is provided.
  • Abstract: The text of the abstract may be typed in or copied from an existing document.

 

Abstracts may be uploaded as drafts until 12:00pm of 15 July 2010. Please make sure that the abstract is submitted in its final form before the deadline.

Abstracts will not be accepted when submitted by fax, post, email or on CD.

Accepted submissions will be mainly presented as posters. Some selected submissions will be presented in the main sessions of the meeting. In case you do not want your abstract to be selected for oral presentation, please indicate your preference in this regard.

 

After submitting the Abstract

Authors will be notified by email until August 23, 2010 informing, if the Abstract was accepted by the Scientific Committee. The presenting author is required to register and pay for the congress until September 10, 2010. After that deadline, all unregistered (or unpayed) presenters will have their abstracts and presentations cancelled.

Guidelines for Posters

 

Information for Poster Presentation:

In order to enable a lively discussion on all submitted abstracts, there will be poster walks guided by the speakers and chairs of the main sessions.

The poster authors are requested to be present at their posters during the indicated time period of the poster presentation. The posters have to be mounted in the morning of the respective poster session and have to be removed in the evening of the same day.

The individual presentation in front of the poster will be about 4 min each followed by the discussion by the chairs of the session as well as the audience.

The presentation should concentrate on the aim of the study, the main results and the take home message from the study.

The presentation has to be in English

The chairs will be asked to nominate one poster from each session to elect the 10 best posters of the congress, which will be awarded as follows: best poster 1000 Euro, 9 posters 500 Euro.

For selection, particular attention will be paid to the following criteria:

1. Presentation of poster by author

2. Graphical presentation of poster

3. Scientific quality

 

The deadline for authors registration has been extended to 10th September 2010.

 

1 – Posters produced and printed by MTP

The congress's website offers a solution for the poster production (or just its printing). For such, the Author should contact the Secretariat (MTP) by email (posters@lisboncongress2010.org), describing the intended service.

 

A. Production

(includes composing the Poster, printing and assembly – Price subject to budget)

Elements (texts, graphics, images, etc.) to be included on the poster must be defined and provided by the Author, as well as the way it will be delivered (dimensions and dates of delivery) and its graphic layout. The congress's graphic department will be in charge of composing the poster according to the Author's aims and requirements.Then it will be printed (photo paper, 125g, with matte or glossy lamination) and assembled at the congress's venue. 

All requests for poster production should be submitted until 1st September 2010.

 

B. Printing

(includes printing and assembly – 75,00 € plus VAT per unit)

The congress's graphic department provides to the authors a Powerpoint template file (120x90cm) containing a common footer bar used for identification purposes. After composing the poster, the author must export it as a PDF file (in order to maintain its graphic integrity) and send it to posters@lisboncongress2010.org (authors should identify themselves with full name and email address used on the registration). Powerpoint files will not be accepted.These PDF files will be properly prepared to be printed (photo paper, 125g, with matte or glossy lamination) and assembled at the congress's venue.
All requests for poster printing should be submitted until 10th September 2010.

The disassembly of posters will be Author's responsibility.

B. Poster dimensions

Poster dimensions must not exceed 120 x 90 cm (height x width).

 

C. Liability

All authors are responsable for the posters assembly and disassembly, at the autores são responsáveis pela colocação e remoção dos Posters, in the site that will be clearly marked for that purpose. Posters should be assembled on 14th October 2010 and must be disassembled until 2:00pm of 16th October 2010. LMHC/1ºCNLC Organising and Local Executive Committees will not be responsible for any damage caused by the disassembly of posters, if authors do not respect these deadlines.
